We have a Christmas wish. You know what it is. All we want for Christmas is immigration reform.
For the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants living in the United States, 2013 was supposed to be their year. Immigration reform was a top priority on the President’s agenda, but Congress has failed to pass such legislation thus far. Meanwhile, the President is facing pressure to stop deportations.
While legislation stalls on Capitol Hill, people are suffering. Families are separated by immigration rules that make no sense. Right now, there is no heart in our system. We need to fix this problem immediately.
Those of us who have the privilege of celebrating the holidays with our families this year must remember the thousands of families who are being forcibly kept apart across borders. We should lift these families up in our thoughts this Christmas. Going in to the new year, we need to pressure our politicians to pass meaningful reform so that families may be united once again.
We thank you for fighting this battle with us, and we hope you have a wonderful holiday season!
